Cahaba Saxophone Quartet

Kim Bain, Lori Ardovino, Sallie White, Jon S. Remley

Kim Bain is the band director at Pizitz Middle School in Vestavia Hills, Alabama.  She received the Bachelor of Music, Master of Arts, and Education Specialist degrees from the University of Alabama and the Master of Music degree in Saxophone Performance from Bowling Green State University, where she was a student of Dr. John Sampen.  In addition to her teaching, she is active as a performer in such groups as the Friends of Jazz Quartet, the Cahaba Saxophone Quartet, the Super Jazz Orchestra, and the Joe Giattina Big Band.  Her professional affiliations include MENC, ABA and IAJE.

Lori Ardovino is Professor of Music and Director of Music Graduate Studies at the University of Montevallo.  She received the Bachelor or Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Education and Performance from the University of Minnesota, Moorhead, the Master of Music from Michigan State University, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati where she was graduate assistant to Ron de Kant.  She has performed at many national clarinet conferences and workshops and is an active performer on both clarinet and saxophone with such groups as the Magnolia Trio, the Cahaba Saxophone Quartet, the Joe Giattina Big Band, the Alabama and Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestras. She is an active composer/performer member with the Birmingham Art Music Alliance and has had her works performed across the United States and Canada. Additionally, she is an artist/clinician for the G. Leblanc Corporation.  Her professional affiliations include MENC, MTNA, ABA, BAMA, NACWPI, BMTA and ASCAP. 

Sallie White teaches at Hoover High School where she directs the award winning First Edition Jazz Band, Concert Band I, AP Music Theory and is Associate Director of the marching band.  She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Anderson University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and Psychology and “with honors” in psychology.  She received her Master of Music Education from Indiana University where she graduated with distinction.  Sallie is an active performer in the Birmingham area with such groups as the Cahaba Saxophone Quartet is lead alto with the Super Jazz Orchestra.  She has received many honors and distinctions including Outstanding Music Alumni from Anderson University, Outstanding Jazz Educator award from the National Band Association.  She is a member of MENC, ABA, AEA, and IAJE, where she is currently president for the Alabama Chapter.

Jon S. Remley is the Instrumental Music Supervisor for the Jefferson County School systems. John received the Bachelor of Music Education from Henderson State University, the Master of Music from East Texas State University and a PhD in Music Education from the University of North Texas. Jon has served as a guest conductor and clinician across the southern and Midwestern United States. As a performer, he is active with the Cahaba Saxophone Quartet, the Super Jazz Orchestra, the Alabama Blues Machine and is conductor of the Birmingham Youth Symphony. His professional affiliations include MENC, ABA and AEA and is on the Board of Directors for the Music Opportunity Program in Birmingham, AL.
